Why do you think informal (shorthand) writing was created? Who uses it the most?
Is it important for everyone to learn and understand shorthand writing? Why or why not?
Some of you mentioned that it is still important to know how to write formally because you need to use it in school. Is there a place in your life for formal writing outside of school? Explain.

I think shorthand writing was created because some people like me don't want to write a long word, so they use shortcuts. And on Twitter and texting you have a limit of words, so you have to use shorthand. Yes it is important because like I said on Twitter and texting you have a limit of 140 characters. I use formal writing on e-mails sometimes to an older person like my aunts or uncles, and if I don't use formal writing they wont know what I'm talking about.

I think shorthand writing was created because it made writing faster. I think people who chat online use it the most. I think it is important for everyone to learn and understand shorthand writing because if your talking to someone online and there writing in shorthand writing then you won't understand anything there saying. We need formal writing for if you have to write something like our parents have resumes they can't use shorthand writing for that and online we can't spell something different because then you won't find what you searching for on the internet- Liezl

I think people should learn it because if you were talking to your friend and their like LOLOLOLOLOLOLO you won't know what it means.

10-18years old. I think it was created because people don't want to write as much, so it doesn't take as long. I think it's pretty important to learn because what if someone sends you a text and it's an emergency with a whole bunch of shorthands.

ReplyDeleteI don't think you should teach kids shorthand. It doesn't make much sense.
I don't really do shorthand because I'm not a text-er. I think people use shorthand while texting, messaging and typing while playing games.

1. I think it was created for people who don't have that much time to social network because its faster to use shorthand writing compared to formal writing. I think people from the age of 10-about20 because i think the newer generations use it more

3. You could use formal writing at work when you get older but it depends what job you get like if you work at McDonalds then you might never use it but if you work for a newspaper company you would use it everyday

I think it was created it because if you need to say got to go and you and really have no time you just say gtg, that takes like 1 second. I think that people from 10-20 use it the most.I think it is not important to understand informal writing because there is no job that you need to write informal writing and in school you don't take a test on informal writing.

It was created so we can take short cuts in our writing when we are social networking.People on Facebook msn etc. No we all don't have to learn it just happens when your social networking. Shorthand is not something you speak it is something you type. It wont effect your formal writing at all. At least for me. Amar

I think it was created so people can save time and space while social networking. Yes people should because it is what most people use today and it is even in books . Yes for example if you are a lawyer you cannot use shorthand in court or you will get fired.

I think shorthand was made,so some people who are too busy or lazy to write a full word, they just write in in shorthand.Its not really importen to understand shorthand because shorthand does not really explain your thoughts.In jobs, you might need to write formal because if you write shorthand, you might get fired or something.

U might need to write a letter someday, and if that ever happens u need to write formally. also, say u are gonna write a journal or some thing, maybe a book, u will have to DEFINITELY use formal writing.

I think informal writing was created because people don't like spending to much time talking and want to do things faster. I would have no idea who would use informal writing the most but probably someone who's in front of the computer all day.

You need to know formal before you learn informal and you can use formal when you are writing a book because that would be a weird book

ReplyDeletei think it wasn't created because people probably think for school they will start using it like that when your not suppose to so that's probably why. the ages would be around the pre-teen people who would use it because most of the high school people at the age of 15 and up would be using normal sentences that make sense and maybe they thought it through that t might help them in school and it is better to. cause they might get used to writing short handed writing during school.
ReplyDeletei don't think it is important for everyone to learn short hand writing because if u just read it proper you will understand the short hand writing and for learning short hand writing it isn't something you should do because it is really easy. they should understand the short hand writing because if you don't its really hard for you to be talking to the people who your talking to.
yes it is important for you to use formal writing because maybe you use it in school and then when it is a assignment you need to hand in and your too use to it so its not good. for jobs you do like accountant you need to use formal writing.

yes there could be like for example you were writing a letter to someone that has no clue what the shorthand is when I was 7 my grandma got me a gift I had to write back since I was in a hurry to play outside so I wrote in shorthand I got a letter in return saying what.

It kinda is cause most people talk on MSN/FB/Text in Informal. There is a place for Formal writing/Talking. Like in war if there's a sniper and it shoots some soldiers and misses, the soldiers would say something like "It's a 50!" Which means 50 Caliber. You use some Informal when your rushing, also in messenger related stuff. I think it was created cause it saves time.

it was made for people that r on the go or have things to do that's why people use shorthand. it is important to learn shorthand because lot of people use shorthand and if u don't understand then the person will fave to explain to u What it means and some people don't like to explain.i only use shorthand for txting and msn i use formal to write a letter that's all. nicole
